The SSPU Library (Network Information Center) was founded in June 1963. The library consists of the Compilation Section, the Circulation Section, the Reading Section, the Educational Technology Section (the original Electrified Education center), the Information Section, the Operation Section, and the Library office. The library currently has 40 staff members, among whom 4 hold senior professional titles and 16 hold middle rank professional titles. The library possesses total floor space of 19,400 square meters, total collections of 763,000 volumes, 1,200 reading seats, and more than 1,500 domestic and international newspapers and periodicals. The types of the library collected publications include print, electronic document and audio-video product.
In accordance with the requirements of the university’s information infrastructure planning, the library is striving to develop a variety of campus based applications to provide new information services to support teaching and research. For instance, the Campus IC Card has been extensively used for Personal Identity Identification and Consumption Settlement. After install the Automatic Integration Management system, the digital library began to take shape, which includes 200 electronic reading rooms, a SAN framework based 4TB capacity storage system, a local image server for Super Star digital library and VIP Chinese periodical database, a Video On Demand system, 9 major Chinese and foreign periodical databases with full-text information retrieval function, 320,000 electronic books and 8,500 electronic newspapers and periodicals. With the implementation of computer based management process, the library has improved it services in literature reference, information retrieval, digital resource, and network-aided teaching software. |
