Hands-on Training Center

 
 
The SSPU Hands-on Training Center grew out of the Shanghai Mechanical and Electronic Training Base funded and built by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and was given the current name in September 2002.
The Hands-on Training Center is the symbol architecture of the university, with the total floor space amounting to 39,000 square meters. In terms of the operational functions, the center is divided into four sections such as the Common fundamental section, the Comprehensive specialties section, the Heavy equipments specialties section, and the Industry-university-research cooperation base. The Center provides training mainly in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Technology Application, Industry Design, Environmental Engineering, and Vocational Competencies, as well as in Physics, Economics and Management, Trading, Logistics, Humanities, Arts, and Languages. The Center has more than 60 laboratories and 8,400 various equipments and instruments worthy of more than 70 million RMB. The Center has established many joint training bases and research institutes with companies from the United States, Germany, Japan, Korea and other domestic companies.
 
The Center has a large number of highly qualified teachers, engineers and technicians who are specialized in practical training for the students, and offers a series of self-designed practical training courses and projects based on industrial background, cultivating the students¡¯ vocational skills and innovation ability through simulating the real production environment. All students are assessed by company standards, and many of them have got various vocational skill certificates at different levels.
 
In order to cultivate and develop the students¡¯ innovation ability, the Center has set up Open Innovation Laboratories with ideal environment and sufficient equipments attracting many students to do their ¡°small invention, small innovation, and small handicrafts¡±. Quite a few of these students have won medals and prizes in various national and Shanghai municipal vocational skill contests.
