| Department of Physical Education
The SSPU Department of Physical Education was founded in 2001, by merging Shanghai Physical Education Normal School and the physical education section of Shanghai Donghu Vocational & Technical College. The department consists of teaching section, scientific research section, and mass sports section, and currently has 29 staff member, among whom there are one professor, 3 associate professors, 15 lecturers and 4 teaching assistants£®The department is responsible for organizing and guiding the teaching, training, and extracurricular activities for the students, and helping them to reach the required standard. The department offers 10 elective courses, such as Ball games, Martial arts, Dance sport, Taekwondo£¬Yoga, etc., and sponsors 13 intercollegiate athletics teams including football£¬basketball, volleyball£¬badminton , tennis, track and field, and bard game teams for men and women. The tennis team for men, the badminton team women, and the chess team for women have earned Shanghai municipal top rankings in recent years¡¯ contests. In respect to scientific research, in the recent four years, the department has undertaken three government funded research projects, and has published two books and more than two hundred papers. The department has successfully held the seven-a-side football competitions for Jin Qiao Export Processing Zone, and the football competitions and the closing ceremony for the first Games of Shanghai Municipal Development Zones. The department is playing an important role in serving the community and strengthening the cooperation between the university and the industry. |
